The existing boat ramp in Sesuit Harbor was deteriorating and GEI’s marine engineering group was retained by the Office of Fishing and Boating Access to prepare designs for reconstruction of the boat ramp and boarding floats.
The existing ramp had a deteriorated fixed timber pier to one side that provided access for temporary mooring or boarding vessels using the ramp. Following review of options for replacement, the preferred option was a new wider ramp with two lines of boarding floats, one on each side of the ramp.
The new boat ramp was all cast in place reinforced concrete and was constructed in a dewatered cofferdam. The ramp also included an extension of the concrete slab at the bottom to provide additional scour protection against boat propellers.
GEI’s involvement in this project included all aspects of engineering services, including site investigation, topographic survey, preliminary design, permitting, construction documents, and construction phase support services.
