GEI performed the repairs to the existing boat ramp and repair of the adjacent bulkheads in Saquatucket Harbor which had serious deterioration.
The existing ramp had a bulkhead on each side consisting of steel piles with concrete infill panels. The steel piles had corroded at the top surface of the ramp and the bulkhead’s integrity was impacted. GEI prepared an integral design that strengthened the existing bulkheads by constructing new reinforced concrete walls that were structurally integrated with the concrete boat ramp slab. This avoided the need for costly complete replacement of the bulkheads.
The new boat ramp is cast-in-place reinforced concrete and was constructed in a dewatered cofferdam. The ramp also included an expansion at the bottom to provide additional scour protection against boat propellers.
GEI’s involvement in this project included all aspects of engineering services, including site investigation, preliminary design, permitting, construction documents, and construction services.
