Boston, MASS., July 2, 2025 – The Construction Management Association of America’s (CMAA) New England Chapter has honored GEI Consultants with a Project Achievement Award for Infrastructure for the Town of Sandwich Boardwalk Reconstruction project.
The boardwalk won in the category of Constructed Value of Less than $10 Million at the organization’s Project Excellence Award Program held in Boston, Massachusetts on June 3.
GEI served as the lead designer on the reconstruction of the town’s historic boardwalk, working closely with the community to match the iconic look and feel of the original. The boardwalk’s reconstruction included a more resilient structure to account for sea level rise and storm surges. The original boardwalk had endured several winter storms that caused significant structural damage. GEI’s team also performed regulatory permitting and conducted a geotechnical investigation.
“Our team was proud to meet the community’s vision and develop a resilient and more accessible boardwalk design that will last for generations,” said Alan Pepin, project manager and Vice President – Waterfront Structures at GEI. “We congratulate all of our partners and the town on this award and for making this vision a reality.”
“The Sandwich Boardwalk project was recognized for its collaborative effort to address changing structural needs while respecting the original boardwalk’s look and feel,” said Michael Bertoulin, PE, CCM, CMAA-NE Co-Chair Awards Committee. “The ingenuity of working in the marsh and dunes demonstrated true creativity and innovation to address challenging site conditions.”
