Coastal and Waterfront Engineer Katie Walling Joins GEI

PORTLAND, Maine, Dec. 15, 2025 – Katie Walling has joined GEI Consultants as a Senior Coastal Engineer. Katie brings deep technical expertise in coastal engineering and more than a decade of experience delivering complex shoreline protection, renewable energy, and waterfront infrastructure projects across the U.S. and internationally.

“Katie’s shoreline resilience background will be invaluable to our Maine coastal clients, who are still recovering from the January 2024 storms and preparing for future coastal risks,” says Leila Pike, P.E., Branch Manager and Senior Civil Engineer at GEI. “With Katie on our team, we will expand our coastal project capacity and strengthen our ability to deliver high-quality, community-focused work.”

Katie’s coastal and waterfront project background includes coastal conditions analyses, storm damage assessments, shoreline stabilization, flood protection, nature-based solutions, and living shorelines. Katie is also experienced in the renewable energy industry, where she specializes in submarine cable routing, installation, and protection.

“As a resident of coastal Maine, I am looking forward to working on projects that enhance the resiliency of our waterfront infrastructure and coastal communities,” says Katie. “I chose GEI because their work in the coastal and waterfront industry aligns with my career goals, and I knew I would be joining an excellent team.”

Katie holds a Master of Engineering in Ocean Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, both from Stevens Institute of Technology. She is a licensed engineer in New York and New Jersey.
